The Vice Chancellor鈥檚 Advisory Committee (VCAC) is the campus-level faculty committee that serves in an advisory role to the provost on the comprehensive review, tenure, and promotion of tenure-track faculty on the CU Boulder campus. In this capacity, the VCAC is responsible for reviewing comprehensive review, tenure, and promotion cases forwarded to it by the deans of the CU Boulder colleges and schools. The VCAC runs based on Robert's Rules of Order. Its deliberations result in a vote, which is reported in the form of a recommendation to the provost. In the procedures as described in the and in , the VCAC is part of the "second level review." The VCAC is a key part of shared faculty governance on campus.
Additional roles of the committee include:
- the review of appointment (hire) with tenure cases;
- providing advice to the provost on policies and processes related to comprehensive review, tenure, and promotion; and
- serving as an appeal body for post-tenure review appeals.
The VCAC is chaired by the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs. The Director of Faculty Personnel in the Office of Faculty Affairs is the administrative manager of the committee and handles correspondence with the campus on VCAC-related matters. The committee鈥檚 membership typically comprises 12 to 16 professor-rank faculty members representing the range of CU Boulder colleges and schools. VCAC members are selected in large part based upon their stellar reputation in their discipline, and because of their broad understanding of the standards and practices of public research universities. Members are recruited by the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs听in collaboration with the Provost and the Boulder Faculty Assembly (BFA) Executive Committee. VCAC members serve a term of three calendar years. The committee meets weekly during the spring term and may have some additional work throughout the calendar year.
