Natural Sciences

Division of Natural Sciences

Natural science encompasses a wide range of topics, from quarks and electrons, cells and neurons, to water, earth, and space, people and communities.

We strive to understand and develop solutions to humanity’s most pressing challenges, as well as understanding the fundamental nature of matter, life, and the universe. We are united by common methods and philosophy, as well as grounding in quantitative analysis – we have two mathematics departments!Ìý

We welcome students to join us in interactive classes with world class faculty, hands-on laboratory or field experiences, and internships for professional development. Our courses show that science is not a static list of facts, but an exciting, dynamic process that leads to new knowledge and solutions. The interplay of observation, experimentation, theory and data analytics enables students to sharpen critical thinking skills and gain new perspectives on life and our surroundings.ÌýÌý

Imagine using the power of science to solve important problems. At CU, you will gain a world-class education that equips you to take on the most complex issues of today.Ìý

Research & Community Engagement

At the heart of the natural sciences is a spirit of exploration—an ongoing quest to understand the forces that shape our world. From decoding the complexities of ecosystems to modeling climate dynamics and uncovering the building blocks of life, our researchers are tackling some of the most pressing and fascinating questions of our time. This work is powered by collaboration across disciplines, where faculty, students and staff unite curiosity with cutting-edge tools, data analytics, logic and experimentation. Every discovery not only deepens our understanding of nature and the laws that govern it—it equips us to respond to global challenges and innovate for a sustainable future.

Join us in advancing knowledge that matters.
