Celebrating 30 years at CU!

Founded in 1995, the Queer and Trans Studies (QTS) program, previously known as the LGBTQ Studies Certificate, has a commitment to academic rigor and intersectional frameworks. QTS encourages students to deepen their understanding of queer and trans of color critique, decolonial approaches, and transdisciplinary thinking and to work alongside award-winning faculty who research this field.

Our mission is to build an interdisciplinary and justice-oriented academic space that engages queer and trans life as sites of creativity, resistance, and world-making.

The LGBTQ Studies Certificate laid the foundation for this expansion—we’re building on a strong and important legacy. Stay tuned for upcoming events honoring the legacy of LGBTQ studies, as we grow our capacity in ways that reflect and respond to our students' lives and futures!

Queer and Trans Studies (QTS) at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ is an interdisciplinary academic program offering a major and minor track within the department of Women and Gender Studies. QTS interweaves complex theories and analysis into the study of sexuality and gender, with particular focus on intersections with race, ethnicity, class and ability. Students can engage with a wide variety of courses, internships and programming in order to deepen their understanding of queer and trans issues in their academic, professional and personal lives.
